Honestly: when to keep Sage 50?
1. Your accountant loves Sage and won't switch
If your external accountant is a Sage expert charging you little, switching cost may exceed gains. Unless you also plan to change firms.
2. You have 10+ years of complex Sage data
My migration module (from Pro) imports Sage 50 CSV exports, not its native files. Ten years of history with job costing, several currencies and complex inventory means exports to prepare and check one by one. Weigh that time against the long-term gains.
3. You don't have reliable Internet
Sage 50 works on a local file: it runs without Internet. Forge Tech keeps your file on a Quebec server: no connection, no access. If you work in a remote area without a stable connection, Sage stays relevant.
Choose Sage 50 if…
you often work without Internet, your accountant does everything in Sage, or you want to produce your RL-1 slips electronically from your accounting software.
Choose Forge Tech if…
you pay employees in Quebec and want payroll inside $99 a month (estimated pay stubs for now), you're in construction (CCQ) or rental property, or you want your books on a Quebec server rather than in a file on a single PC.
Example, at prices checked on August 7, 2026: 10 employees and 2 people in the books, so Premium at Sage. Sage 50 Premium + Payroll: from $1,955 a year. Forge Tech Pro: $990 a year prepaid, $1,188 a year paying monthly. Gap: at least $965 a year, or $767 paying monthly, before tax. Get your Sage quote and redo the math with your own numbers.
